Scallywag Letterpress
Scallywag Letterpress is a queer woman-owned printmaking studio in Southwest Virginia with a simple mission: safe spaces and solidarity through visibility. We aim to create art that amplifies voices, celebrates diversity, and promotes social justice.
Following in the brushstrokes before us, we use printmaking as a tool for change, believing that art has the power to challenge norms and foster community. As a business rooted in inclusivity, we are dedicated to supporting marginalized communities and making sure everyone is seen, heard, and valued.
Owner Katy Shepard is a queer artist and printmaker whose work is rooted in a deep commitment to liberation through the creative process. A graduate of Virginia Tech with degrees in art, philosophy, and political science, her doctorate research explored the intersection of art, existentialist ethics and social justice. She has honed her craft through both formal education and years of hands-on experience. Her work is a constant exploration of identity, community, and the power of art to create meaningful change.
